General Election 2015 CaFFE Report No39: CaFFE's massive voter education initiative
CaFFE's massive voter education initiative, I am a clean voter , are you entered Hatton, the home to a large number of Indian origin Estate sector Tamils, today.
Plantation sector is one of the most challenging phase of our initiative because of the prevalence of drugs/alcohol in the election campaign.
Drug and alcohol use is higher in the plantation sector compared to the rest of the country and a number of candidates in these areas are involved in the alcohol industry, legitimate or illegal . We have also seen such candidates intoxicate their supporters in order to make the campaign violent on purpose.
During the voter education initiative, CaFFE will urge voters not to vote for candidates that promote alcohol and drugs. Thus, our theme for the plantation sector is 'don't vote for those involved in the drug trade. I am a clean voter, are you?'
CaFFE hopes that, with this initiative, it can change the politics of drugs and alcohol in the plantation sector.
